The Collabor8tion

We live in an age of social media. When I was young, computers were a tool of the nerdy. Typing fast and being able to write HTML and make a personal web page were techie merit badges. Information was widely available, but the search engines and tools were still being developed and implemented. Now with the myriad of social networking sites and easy to use blogs and pages (like this one), one would think it would be easier than ever for information and factual discourse to flow easily. Instead we are inundated with irrational rambling, fear tactics and frenzied hate mail, and of course, enough flame posts to shatter the self-esteem of even the most confident of individuals. When did the information age turn into the mis-information age? Before we found a plethora of facts and literature at the library, while the tabloids kept to the magazine racks (with exceptions of course). The crazy petitions and campaigns were limited to fliers placed under your windshield wipers and individuals shouting from soap boxes and street corners. Now it's hard NOT to find this sort of information. We search for information on George Washington and his personal history and we find a few good bits of information, but dozens more relating to conspiracy theories, personal opinions, and worst of all, rhetoric and lies wrapped up with a few vague facts to make them seem all the more credible. This site may be no different. It may just be the ramblings of an over-educated, under-qualified, cynical individual. But hopefully it will at least entertain.
